TWO WIVES: The Review.

It has been over a month since Two wives ended and I think this post is reasonably very late in coming. I almost gave up posting it but thanks to one very persistent follower of KeMPhi, I decided to write it just for her. This is therefore a dedication post to one Lucia Muthoni for insisting that I write it.

Two Wives which was replaced by Losing heaven on KTN Kenya was a hit on Kenyan Television, mostly because of the infidelity theme that everyone seemed to identify with. The show had a huge following due to the infectious drama it had and the almost unbelievable twists that it had throughout its run. What I liked about it mostly was that it wasn’t a typical infidelity story and as much as we identified with the characters, it was also very easy to judge them due to the decisions they made. Life is complicated and it was a show that taught us a lot of lessons pertaining to the choices that we make in our daily lives
The casting, for one was spot on and there wasn’t anyone who didn’t bring their A game. Even the children were amazing. Marcus and Audrey were just as good as the older actors who have had lots of experience in their craft.

The story line, I feel went quite smoothly. Nothing felt forced. The biggest twist being Victor’s amnesia was great at it was the very first time that I actually felt an amnesia twist fit perfectly in a story. They mostly feel like an escape route but on Two Wives, Victor’s amnesia was part of the story; like if it hadn’t happened, the show would have lacked something quite crucial.  Jason Abalos played it out with expertise and it was almost as if a new character had been introduced. It was a testament of what a great actor Jason Abalos is. Erich Gonzales and Kaye Abad were great as Janine and Yvonne as well and it was heaven watching their confrontation scenes. I think it’s important to have chemistry not just as lovers, but as enemies as well. They went at each other like nothing else mattered and fought it out to the end. It was always dramatic watching them fight which made the show all the more interesting to watch.

Patrick Garcia as Albert was something else! I think that the most challenging roles to play are antagonistic roles but he made Albert the man every girl wants to have as a partner. I don’t think there is a single person who did not fall in love with his character and it was because he played him do well.
The other thing I loved about the story was the incorporation of light moments. It can get stuffy watching too much Drama but you could always laugh out loud when Daria came up, as well as Carla, Mimi and Shakira who were especially hilarious. Their scenes broke the tension in the show and gave us a much needed breather.

Albert and Victor

When I learned of Victor’s eventual death (Thanks to our unwanted spoilers), I thought it would be a bad ending for such an amazing show but like the amnesia twist, the plot fell right into place with the flow of the story and it was quite necessary because it helped bring the animosity of Janine and Yvonne to a close because I don’t think they could have ever made up with Victor still around. All in all, it was a good show. The only thing I would take from it however was the introduction of Kenjie. Don’t get me wrong, I like Daniel Matsunaga and some eye candy as much as the next person but I don’t think they needed him. He looked like he had an important role to play but he fell short. The show could have done without him, especially with Dale still in the picture and having a more significant role in Janine’s life.

Kenjie

Dale was Audrey’s father and even if his past with Janine couldn’t have allowed them to get back together, Janine didn’t have to end up with someone. They made things even more confusing when Janine didn’t fall for his charms and it was always Kenjie rushing after her. It was almost as if Janine just settled for him. This might be because they introduced Kenjie a bit too late and we weren’t able to see their relationship develop unlike with Albert and Yvonne but that’s just my opinion.  Apart from that, it was an amazing ending with Janine and Yvonne having put their animosity to bed and the very tenacious Albert finally getting his girl.
That’s about as much as I can say and huge props go to ABS-CBN and the production team and the entire cast for always giving their best!
Please feel free to share your views as well.
