We were introduced to two young girls, Leah and Tiffany;
their father Sol and their mother Rona.
Leah was sad after her mother left but their lives improved
since their mother always bought them gifts, and sent them money. They however
received news that Rona had died in the USA after a while. Mr. Sol was not able
to get her body transported to the Philippines because it was expensive so she
was buried there.
Years later, Leah and Tiffany are already grown up. They
live with their father at a tenement building since they lost their house.
Tiffany has a son called Gabby. Leah had a boyfriend called Jigs.
Leah wants to leave for America with her choir and goes for
her Visa interview. She is supposed to leave with her boyfriend but he fails
the Visa interview. Leah is able to pass it after telling the interviewer that
she really wants to go to America because her mother is buried there.
After Jig learns that Leah passed her Visa interview, he
tells her that it will be a waste because she cannot leave without him. Leah
tells Jigs that she intends to go to America and he could just catch up with
her once his mother gets him petitioned. Jigs says that he does not like having
a long distance relationships so he
gives Leah an ultimatum; if she leaves then their relationship is over. He asks
Leah to choose and she goes quiet. Jigs says that they’re over and walks away.
Leah talks to Tiffany about Jiggs and says that she hopd
Jigs would understand why she had to leave because they shared the same dream;
to go to America. Tiffany tells Leah that she should go because Jigs was being
selfish.
Clark is lives in America where he works to take care of his
younger siblings who live with their grandmother in the Philippines. He is also
Jigs’ cousin. He hopes to become an American citizen but he is not able to do
it because his father refuses to acknowledge him.
Leah hopes to go to America and stay there to work so that
she could give her family a better life. Mr. Sol hears her telling this to
Tiffany and gets upset because he thought Leah would only go to America for the
singing competition. He said that America took their mother away from them and
he did not want to lose Leah as well. Tiffany talked to him and convinced him
to let Leah go to America because it was her dream and they should let her fulfill
it.
Leah finally left for America with her choir and was super
excited when she got there. When they arrived at their hotel, she said she wanted
to hug the air and kiss the ground so she went out for a walk. As she circled
around the pavements enjoying the view, she held out her hands and ended up
embracing a stranger; it was Clark. They were both surprised but Clark shrugged
out of the hug and told Leah not to go around hugging strangers even if she was
excited.
Back in the Philippines, Jigs planned a serenade for Leah at
the tenement and brought flowers to apologize for their fight. The entire
tenement went to watch it outside and after it was done, Mr. Sol told Jigs that
Leah already left for America. Jigs threw the flowers he had brought on the
ground and walked away.
Jigs called Leah later to tell her that he was fine with her
leaving for America and that they should put the issue behind them. He added
that Leah would make it up to him for leaving once she got back but Leah
reminded him that they had already broken up. Jigs said that he had not meant
it when he said that they would break up if she left but Leah told him that
they would not get back together since she was planning on staying in America
and fulfilling her dreams. That was where we ended…
