We started with Aunt Jack advising Leah about how to survive
in the USA as an immigrant; she told Leah to avoid immigration officers and
never to tell anyone about her immigration status since other people could
report her.
After that, Jack managed to get Leah some part time jobs so that
she could earn some money. She did things from baby-sitting, cleaning and being
a nurse for the elderly. Jack told her that if she wanted to survive as an
immigrant, she needed to swallow her pride and take jobs that no other person
was willing to take. Leah said that she could endure it for the sake of her
family.
Aunt Jack took Leah to another Cemetery to look for her
mother’s grave but they were still not able to find her.
After Leah got her salary, she refused to spend it and tried
to save every penny she earned to send back home to her family. She walked to
work and carried packed lunch so that she would not have to spend s lot. Jack
was impressed with her dedication to her family so she asked Leah if there was
any possibility of her getting back together with her son Jigs. Leah was
uncomfortable with the question since she did not want to disappoint Jack but
she told her that she wanted to focus on taking care of her family.
After working for a while, Leah had to find a way to prolong
her stay in the US since her Visa was almost expiring. Aunt Jack got Leah a job
interview and if she got it, her employer was going to process her working Visa
so that she could stay in the US legally. Leah went to the job interview
feeling hopeful but she ended up turning it down because the job description was
a stripper.
When Leah was out, Clark went to see Aunt Jack and Jack
asked Clark to stay and wait for Leah so that she could introduce them to each
other. Clark was in a hurry but decided to wait for Leah after Aunt Jack
insisted. Leah took long getting back so Clark decided to leave and meet her
another time. Before he left, Aunt Jack told him that she would be sending
stuff to the Philippines and asked if he wanted to include anything. Clark said
that he only had 4 dollars and Aunt Jack asked how he was using his money after
he just said that he was working 4 jobs! Clark had to tell her that he was
paying the loan shark Baracuda back. Aunt Jack was upset because it was
dangerous to deal with loan sharks and asked Clark to come to her if ever he
needed help with anything. Clark then left.
As a depressed Leah was going home, she had a bucket of
water poured on her from an apartment as she passed past the building. She
stood frozen at the spot completely awed and as she turned to continue walking
home, she bumped into Clark and got him drenched as well. Clark was angry that
he kept bumping in to her and he told her to stop messing up his day.
When Leah arrived home, Jack apologized to her for getting
her the interview since she did not know that it was a strip club. Leah was resigned
to going back to the Philippines since they did not have a way of getting her
to stay in the USA legally. Aunt Jack however had a brilliant suggestion for
Leah to get married to an American so that she could have a green card. She
said she did the same as well so as to become an American citizen. Leah was
completely opposed to the idea but she eventually agreed to do it. Aunt Jack told her that they needed at least
10,000 dollars to pay an American to marry her but Leah told her that she only
had 3500 dollars. With the limited budget, Aunt Jack set out to look for a
husband for Leah. Unfortunately, all the men that came in were not suitable
candidates. Leah said she was not picky and would marry either of them but Aunt
Jack refused to let her settle for an indecent man.
Back in the Philippines, Mr. Sol had some chest pains and
when he went to the hospital, the doctor told him that some veins in his heart
were blocked and he needed to undergo bypass heart surgery.
Aunt Jack went to see Clark later and told him about Leah’s
predicament. Clark told her that it was no big deal for Leah to be an illegal
immigrant but Jack told him that Leah did not want to live in the US illegally.
They conversation turned to Clark and how much money he still owed the loan
shark.
Aunt Jack had another brilliant idea; for Clark to marry
Leah in exchange for the money so that he could pay off the loan. Clark did not
want to marry a woman he did not know and Aunt Jack told him that if he did not
want to do it for the money, then he should do it to help Jigs because he
wanted Leah there. We ended with Aunt Jack begging Clark to consider the idea…
