Episode 1
We first met a girl called Pinang who lives with a farm with
her parents Emilio and Marcy along with her two brothers and grandfather.
Marcy’s sister lives abroad and got married by an American.
Her father gushes about how his younger daughter is living a good life and is always touring the world because she is
married to a rich husband. Marcy is content with her simple family life and
tells her father that she is fine with raising her family.
Emilio is able to attain the title deed for their farm and
everything seems to be falling into place until Marcy’s father has a stroke due
to a brain aneurism. He has to undergo
an expensive operation in Manila and Marcy tried to contact her sister abroad
so that she could help with the expenses. Her sister does not answer and Emilio
decides to put pawn his farm in order to pay for the operation.
Emilio tells Marcy that he borrowed the money from a friend
and she calls the person to help them for helping them. The man tells Marcy the
truth; that Emilio actually pawned their farm to get the money.
After Marcy’s father is treated, he returns home although
not fully recovered. The problem comes in when Emilio tries to pay off the loan
but the interest rate is too high and they have no way of paying it with their
little harvest at the farm.
Marcy has a friend in Singapore and she asks if she could
get a job there in order to help pay for the loan. Her friend says that once
she gets her papers in order, she would get her a job there.
Everyone in the family does not want to Marcy to go but they
face the threat of their land being repossessed if they do not pay the loan.
Emilio tells Marcy that he will not let her leave because he
is the head of the family and will find a solution to the problem. He approaches
some of his friends and asks them to pay the loan in order to avoid the
interest rate but they say that they have no liquidity and hence cannot help
him.
Emilio thus gives in and agrees to let Marcy leave for
Singapore to work. Before she leaves, Marcy teaches Pinang how to make her
famous beef stew and to care for her younger brothers as well as the rest of
the family when she’s gone.
Episode 2
Marcy finally leaves for Singapore and her children accompany
her to the airport in tears.
When Marcy arrives in Singapore, her friend goes to pick her
up and tours her around Singapore. She then takes her to where she is supposed
to work; for a woman called Chelsea. She is supposed to be the Nanny to Chelsea’s
son Phil.
Phil and Marcy get off to a dramatic start because Phil
wants Marcy to go back to the Philippines. He argues that if Marcy is no longer
there to take care of him, his mother would have no choice but to spend time
with him because she is always busy.
Phil therefore plays pranks on Marcy and at one time, he
locked her outside and Marcy had to sleep outside the entire night because
Chelsea was out at a conference.
In the morning, Chelsea wants to scold Phil but she gets
called back to work. Once she is gone, Phil gets out of his room and tells
Marcy that he will not apologize to her and all he wants is for her to go.
Marcy tells him that she does not want his apology because it should come from
the heart and that she would not leave because she was working to provide for
her family.
Phil gets sick and Marcy makes him some beef soup to make
him feel better. Slowly the two of them start to get along and Marcy talks to
Chelsea about spending more time with Phil. Chelsea tells Marcy that she is
working hard to give her son a good future. She reveals to Marcy that she left
Brazil to work in Singapore and could not leave Phil there like he wanted because
his father did not want to take care of him.
Marcy’s friend advises her not to get too attached to Phil
but Marcy says that she cannot help it because she too misses her own children.
At one time, Phil goes to the mall with his mother and they
watch a couple buy some expensive Jewelry. Phil asks his mother to buy one for
herself too because she works hard but Chelsea tells him that the money she
makes is for him.
Marcy tells Phil that he should get his mother a gift in
order to thank her for taking care of him. When they are at the mall, Phil
steals an expensive necklace. The attendants at the shop say that he has it but
Phil puts it in Marcy’s handbag and denies taking anything. When the attendants
check Phil, he does not have a necklace but when they check Marcy’s bag, they
find it there!
Marcy is taken away for shop lifting as she cries that she
did not steal anything…
