We started with everyone noticing that one of the apartments
from the tenement was on fire and they immediately went to help.
The woman who
was bathing her son collapsed from the smoke but her son was able to get out of
the house. Her husband went in to get her but she was too heavy and he could
not carry her by himself. Clark was outside handing out buckets of water when
he heard the man calling for help. He took a wet towel, covered himself and
went into the apartment. He was able to help the man get his house out of the
house but he stayed behind and got caught inside the blazing house.
When Leah learnt that Clark was trapped inside the house,
she went hysterical and started calling out his name. She almost went in there
herself but she was held back. There was a tap on her shoulder and she turned
to see Clark standing before her. He asked her why she was crying and Leah ran
into his arms. She held him so tightly; Clark complained that he could not
breathe. After Leah let go, she complained to Clark for putting himself in
danger but he managed to shut her up by grabbing her and hugging her again. As he held her, he told her that he
thought he was going to die in the fire and it occurred to him that he might
never hug her again so all he wanted was to hug her.
Everyone thanked Clark for his heroic act and then he went
with Leah to clean off the soot from his body. Leah was still upset with Clark
for going into the fire but Clark told her that something good had come from it
because he had been able to prove that Leah loved him. She told him that she
was only concerned about him. After she finished cleaning him up, she asked
Clark to change his shirt but when he went to remove the one he had been
wearing, Leah told him to wait until she left the room. Clark asked her why she
felt shy because she had seen him shirtless on many occasions but Leah said
that she was going to get something.
The tenament’s wiring was destroyed in the fire so there was
no power. After everyone cleaned up, they lit up candles and continued the
festival outside. Clark continued to receive praise for what he did and Mr. Sol
was so proud of his son in law for the brave act, he asked Clark to start
calling him “Dad”. He then went on to give the neighbors a show of how he had
won Mr. Tenement back in the day and Leah felt uncomfortable so she left and
said she needed to get something from the house.
The house was dark so Leah lit a candle but she was still
afraid. She started hearing voices so she hid herself until Clark appeared and
scared her out of her wits. Leah told him that she thought it was a ghost and
Clark told her that he felt like a ghost because most of the time she did not
seem to notice him but like a ghost, he was not going to leave her. He leaned
in for a kiss but Leah walked past him. Clark shouted for Leah to look out and
she rushed back into his arms. Clark held her but Leah let go when she realized
he was only teasing her. Clark said he would protect her and Leah playfully went
back for a hug. She tagged Clark’s shirt and said there was a cockroach on it
so Clark started screaming. Leah left laughing and asked how he could protect
her if he was afraid of cockroaches.
Leah went to stay with Tiffany who told her that it was obvious
she was avoiding Clark. She told Leah not to lose herself even though she loved
Clark because Love was not sure and might eventually fizzle out.
Mr. Sol said that he had serenaded his wife while courting
her so he decided to sing for everyone and show them how he had done it. Leah
was hurt watching him sing after knowing what her mother had done to him so she
left the table and Clark followed her. Their conversation ultimately turned to
their relationship and Leah told Clark that maybe one day their love would die
out as well. Clark tried to assure her of his love but Leah could not be
convinced otherwise.
When they went to sleep, Clark hit the box he had given Leah
and he remembered that she told him she kept all her happy memories in it.
Clark opened it and found a picture of him,
a rose; all the sweet memories that they had shared together in San
Francisco and he smiled as he watched Leah sleep.
In the morning, Leah found Mr. Sol watching Clark teaching
basketball to the children and he told her that he approved of Clark as his son
in law.
Back in San Francisco,
Aunt Jack started feeling better so she went out to meet a friend. The woman told Jack to invite Jigs to their
next gathering but Aunt Jack told her that Jigs only agreed to go the last time
because of Leah. They talked about Clark’s fixed marriage and the woman said
that everyone could see that he and Leah were attracted to each other. Aunt
Jack said that he was happy for them; she just did not like that her son was
the one hurting. The woman told her to encourage gives to start dating so that
he could meet other people and hopefully meet new girls. Aunt Jack told Jigs
about the idea and he started online dating after some persuasion.
Aunt Jack went to clean up Clark’s apartment and when she
was there, Rona arrived looking for Clark. Aunt Jack invited her inside for a
cup of coffee as she told Rona that Clark was in the Philippines for business.
She also told Rona that she was who helped Leah look for her grave all over San
Francisco but then had to apologize because Rona looked hurt.
Clark left Leah’s place after the weekend and returned home
for his furniture business. We ended with him telling his employees that he
would not return to America unless Leah went back with him and if she chose to
stay, he would move to the Philippines permanently.
