Liza Soberano is the new Darna!

Forevermore star Liza Soberano (Agnes) just landed the role of Darna! Darna is a fictional iconic Philippine heroine created by writer Mars Ravelo through his comics. The character has been reenacted into movies and Fantaseryes much like most of Mars Ravelo's works. ABSCBN announced that they were going to make a Darna movie and the clamour for which actress would get to play her started.



Kapamilya star Angel Locsin was pegged to reprice the role after having played her when she was in GMA. This is the role that catapulted her to fame back in 2005 when she starred in the GMA fantaserye of the same name. However, Angel Locsin had to turn down the role due to health issues as she developed complications with her back as she trained for the role. The movie had to be put on hold as Angel Locsin recovered but she eventually decided to give up the role altogether and hence the search for a new Darna ensued.

Many Kapamilya actresses were considered for the role including Maja Salvador, Kathryn Bernado, Nadine Lustre and Jessy Mendiola but it was Liza Soberano who was finally named as the new Darna and she is already training for the role. This has drawn mixed reactions from Filipino Netizens who think that Liza is too sweet to play the role of a crime fighting heroine.
