Looking Back; Jodi Sta Maria...

For our Blast from the past entry this week, we look into Filipina Actress Jodi Sta Maria.

We first saw Jodi sta Maria in the first ever Filipino Teleserye aired in Kenya which was Pangako Sa’ Yo (The Promise). Jodi played Angelo’s sister Lia and was paired with actor Patrick Garcia as her love team partner in the serye. The two starred together in another Serye called Darating Ang Umaga (Till Morning Comes) as Nicole.

Maria started her career when a talent scout approached her to audition for commercials. She then joined Star Magic at 15 years old and went on to become a teen star. At 22 years old, Jodi got married to politician Panfilo Lacson and the two have a son together called Thirdy. They however separated after five years together and annulled their marriage. In a recent interview, Jodi confessed to taking drugs and alcohol in order to get through the annulment because she felt that no one would love her again but she was able to get through the phase when a friend invited her to church. Jodi is now a born again Christian.

Among other Shows that Jodi sta Maria top billed include Tayong Dalawa (The two of us) and Be careful with My Heart. The later was highly successful and went on to run for two and a half years instead of the Three Months that had originally been scheduled. Jodi Sta Maria had to put her Medical degree on hold due to the intense taping schedule but she has recently taken up her classes because she really wants to become a doctor. Something else worth mentioning, Jodi and son Thirdy vacationed in Kenya sometime last year.

Jodi now 34 was also able to display her acting prowess in Pangako Sa’ Yo 2015 remake where she played the indomitable Amor Powers and went on to be nominated for Best Actress in the International Emmys for the role. She was also among the list of Star Magic’s 6 pillars (Alongside Jericho Rosales, Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz, Bea Alonzo and Angelica Panganiban ) as the Kapamilya management arm celebrated 25 years in producing the most talented artists in the Philippines. 

  Jodi’s recent works include this year’s Star Cinema movie Dear Other Self alongside Joseph Marco and Xian Lim. She is also set to return to the small screen with a Serye titled Sana Dalawa ang Puso Ko  alongside Be Careful With My Heart Co star Richard Yap.
