Episode 45
We started with Julian and Mackie chatting in Pinang’s room
as Mackie told Julian about how he started dating Lotlot.
Phil and Pinang were in the sitting room eating the treats
that Phil had brought over for Pinang. Phil noticed that Pinang and her family
were about to go to sleep and apologized for disturbing them. He told Pinang
that she could go to rest and he would leave but Pinang said it was fine and
asked him to stay longer.
Everyone else in the house was restless and wanted to know
what was happening between them so they took a peek from their rooms. First
Grand Pa Apo peered outside and when he closed the door, Phil asked what it had
made the sound. Pinang told him that it was the wind! Before long, a restless
Emil peeked from his room banged his door and then later, Mackie and Julian
peeked from Pinang’s room. Pinang told Phil that their house was very windy and
suggested that they go outside to drink some water because the treats were too
sweat (Pinang’s kitchen is outside).
Emil could not handle the curiosity so he told Marcy that he
was thirsty so that he could go to the kitchen to fetch some water. He did not
see Pinang and Phil in the sitting room and proceeded to go outside but stopped
right outside the door to listen to them. Pinang asked Phil who gave him the
idea to go court her at home and he told her that it was Grandpa Apo. He
admitted that it was new to him but he would do everything necessary to be able
to show her family that he had good intentions toward her. Emil went back to
his room after hearing this and told Marcy that both Phil and Pinang had good
heads on their shoulders and were handling the situation well and they both
went to sleep.
Phil told Pinang that he would continue to court her at her
house if she was okay with it. He then decided that it was late and asked Pinang
to go inside so that he could leave. Before he left, he fished 3 everlasting
flowers from his bag and handed them to Pinang. He said that he bought flower
pots so that he could give one to Pinang everyday and make her smile. Pinang took
them and told Phil that she liked the flowers because they lasted longer and
that was why they were called Everlasting. Phil told her that his love was
everlasting and proceeded to leave. Pinang stored the rest of the treats that
Phil brought in the fridge and then went to bed giggling.
In the morning, Pinang was too happy to be bothered by
anyone. She sang along to the song on the radio as she made her caramel
custards and could not bring herself to be bothered by any teasing remarks that
Mackie and Julian did. Emil had to ask Pinang to come down from cloud 9 so that
they could have breakfast.
When she met Nars and Miggy later, they noted that she had a
particular radiance of happiness and Pinang told them that Phil went to court
her at her house! Nars and Miggy were overjoyed because Phil had finally made
the move. Pinang also admitted to them that she felt happy to be loved and showered
with attention.
Phil could not stop smiling while working at Dahlia’s house
and Arthur noted that he looked to happy.
Unfortunately, people in town could not stop talking about
how lucky Pinang and her family were. One man told Emil to consider the farm
his since he did not have to pay Phil as he was courting his daughter. He ran
into Andy and Sol as they were driving out of town and Sol pointed out that
Pinang was leaning on a solid wall because Phil was interested in her. Emil
told her that he taught all his children to work hard and not depend on anyone
to have a comfortable life but Sol could not stop saying that it was not
necessary if someone had a rich foreigner.
Later that evening, Emil told Marcy what Sol had said and
Pinang heard them. He went to brood at the hut and Marcy explained to Pinang
that her father felt upset because his pride was hurt. She said that Emil was
supposed to be the one taking care of them especially when it came to money
issues and he did not like hearing such gossip made about their family. She
therefore asked Pinang to talk to her father.
Pinang joined Emil out in the hut and he humbly asked her to
wait for a while before accepting Phil’s attentions toward her so that they could
repay the debt they owed him. Pinang said she understood because her family’s
well being was her priority and she would ask Phil to stop courting her. Emil
asked her what would happen if Phil got tired of waiting and Pinang said that
Phil promised that his love was everlasting and they would have to wait and
see.
When she went back inside the house, Marcy hugged her because
she knew Pinang was not fine with the decision that she had made. Pinang tried
to put on a brave face but Marcy told her that she knew Pinang was hurting
because she had already fallen for Phil. She told Pinang to talk to her if she changed
her mind and then hugged her.
Episode 46
Emil was not able to sleep because he felt guilty for asking
Pinang not to accept Phil’s courtship. He told Marcy that he should have been
able to provide for his family without placing them in debt and making them
give up on the things that they wanted. Marcy told Emil not to be hard on himself
because he was a good father.
In the morning, Pinang made her caramel custards without her
usual zest. Phil arrived all jovial to feed his ducks and then got the water
bucket so that he could go talk to her as he fetched water. Phil asked her what
he would be doing later and Pinang curtly answered that she was going to the
Red Cross training. Pinang did not react as he expected and told him to go
fetch water instead of standing there and chatting with her. Emil and Marcy
were headed to the market and Phil greeted them as they left the house. He then
proceeded to fetch water feeling puzzled over Pinang’s behavior.
On the way to the market, Emil was worried that Pinang might
go back on her word but Marcy told him that Pinang always stuck to her decisions.
Emil told her that it would be a good test for Phil to see if he was genuinely interested
in Pinang.
When Emil and Marcy got back from the market, they saw Phil
try to fuss over Pinang as she was going to fetch water but Pinang refused to
let him fetch it for her and said she would do it herself.
After Marcy packed her lunches, she gave Pinang some food
because she had barely eaten breakfast and Julian had asked if she was dieting.
Pinang left to go to her Red Cross training with Miggy and Nars leaving Julian
to deliver her caramel custards to De Luna’s. After she left, Emil told the
rest of the family the decision they had made about Phil. Grandpa Apo told them
to also consider Phil since he would be affected and asked them not to change
the way they treated him.
Phil told Arsing, Roger and Badong that Pinang seemed
different; as if she was sick or maybe mad at him. He said that he would court
her later that evening and they suggested that he recite a poem for her. Phil
said he did not know any poems and they said they would give one to him. Phil
left to go work in Dahlia’s house for a while because he had left his laptop
and said he would be back later for the poem.
As Pinang was leaving, she stopped by the duck pen to look
for Phil but he was told that Phil had returned home. She told Arsing, Badong
and Roger to tell Phil that she was looking for him.
At the red cross training, Pinang was sad and distracted.
She almost messed up their presentation in class but managed to check herself
in time. Nars and Miggy asked her what was wrong after class and she told them
about the decision she had made concerning Phil. As they went out to eat, two
girls stopped them and congratulated Pinang for snagging a rich foreigner.
Pinang told them that Phil was not her boyfriend while Miggy and Nars got very
mad. They warned the girls against spreading rumors that were not true.
At school, Julian heard Margaret’s friends tease her about
Julian. One of them pointed out that Julian was poor and he walked away feeling
hurt. He went to the café before Margaret and she asked him why he had not waited
for her so that they could go together. Julian was serious and told Margaret to
punch in her time card before she was considered late.
Phil went back to the duck pen to learn the poem but soon
realized that Arsing, Badong and Roger really had no knowledge of love poems.
He decided to make one himself and they translated it for him in Filipino. They
also suggested that he wear a barong; the Filipino shirt to and Phil went to
Dahlia’s house to get the one he wore at Terrence’s wedding.
In the evening, Pinang was about to text Phil and tell him
that they needed to talk but he came to her house. He called attention to
himself because he was very smart and Emil asked if it was his birthday. Phil
said it was not and announced that he was there to court Pinang. He proceeded
to recite his poem and everyone stopped to watch him. Pinang was so happy and
Marcy asked Emil why he had never done anything like that for her. When he was
done though, Emil asked Pinang to talk to him and everyone went inside the
house to give them some privacy.
Pinang asked Phil not to court her anymore. She explained
that it was not her priority at the moment and she needed to focus on other
things. Phil was completely taken back by Pinang’s words but he said that he
respected her decision adding that he was willing to wait for her. Pinang asked
him not to because it might be a waste of his time but Phil said that time
spent with her was not wasted.
After Phil left, Pinang cried and then put on a brave face
for her family. She wanted to do the ironing but Marcy said she would do it and
asked her to go to sleep and rest. She had a hard time sleeping and so did
Phil.
In the morning, Marcy laid out the ingredients for the
caramel custards while Julian offered to deliver them for her. Emil offered to
get Pinang some water but she asked him not to. Emil jokingly asked if she thought
Phil was the only person who could fetch her water and told her that he was the
first man who had loved her. Pinang laughed and went over to him for a hug.
Everyone joined in and that was where we ended…
