Introducing The Promise…

The promise (Pangako Sa 'Yo) is a 2015 Teleserye production by Star Creatives for ABSCBN and is an adaptation of 2000 teleserye of the same name.

The story revolves around young lovers; Angelo Buenavista and Yna Macaspac played by Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernado respectively. Angelo is the son of Eduardo and Claudia Buenavista while Yna is the daughter of Amor de Jesus.

Before Yna and Angelo were born, Eduardo and Amor were in love and wanted to build their lives together. Eduardo’s mother however wanted him to marry the governor’s daughter, Claudia so that they could salvage their mining company which was in crisis. Eduardo and Amor have a little misunderstanding and Diego, Eduardo’s brother who is also in love with Amor takes advantage of their time apart and rapes Amor. Claudia witnesses the entire incident.

Amor presses charges against Diego but with the Buenavistas influence, he is released. Diego tells Eduardo that he did not rape Amor because she agreed to it. Claudia also helps Eduardo think that Amor cheated on her and so Eduardo leaves Amor and marries Claudia.

Amor find out she’s pregnant and gives birth to a girl that she names Maria Amor. She leaves for Hong Kong to work and leaves Maria Amor with her family. A landslide occurs at the place where Amor’s family lives and most people perish beneath the rubble. The Buenavista’s are to blame because their mining company had been using explosives for while mining around the area, making the ground weak. Amor is not able to return home in time to save her family so she swears revenge upon the Buenavistas for what they have done to her. Maria Amor survives and is saved by a policeman called Isko who adopts her along with his wife Belen. She has a necklace with a pendant written “YnaMorata” and so they decide to call her Yna.

Twenty years later, Amor will cross paths with Eduardo and Claudia again which will lead her to her daughter Yna who is in love with Eduardo’s son, Angelo. Hence, the revenge plan of Amor against the Buenavistas ensues and everyone will be caught up in the intrigue.

Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernado and supported by Ian Veneracion as Eduardo, Jodi Sta maria and Amor and Angelica Panganiban as Claudia. The extended cast includes Joem Bascon, Diego Loyzaga, Bernard Palanca, Ronny Lazaro, Amy Austria-Ventura, among others.

This story has a few minor changes from the original hence it is more of an adaptation than a remake.
