Since Carmela started airing on KTNKenya, the focus has been
all about the lead male protagonist, Alden Richards. Although we had watched one of his shows; One True Love, Alden is not one of the
popular faces from the Philippine showbiz industry here but I would like to
change this by bringing into attention the record breaking success that is
indeed Alden Richards. I am writing this post for my fellow Kenyan fans, so
that we can also get acquainted with the Aldub
craze which I have mentioned in some of my previous posts.
AlDub is the amalgamation of Alden and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza) who star in the segment called Kalyesyre on GMA’S noontime
show Eat Bulaga. The reality based
segment uses the concept of Dubsmash as the form of communication since Yaya
Dub does not talk while the story is fairy-tale themed; though in a modern
setting with Alden playing the charming prince who falls in love with the maid,
played by Maine. The two had not met for the duration of the story, having to
admire each other from a far and their encounter was highly anticipated by
their fans.
The fans were not disappointed though when the Kalyesyre team pulled all the stops to give them the biggest show when the two finally met in form of a sold out concert held at The Philippine Arena. Alden met Yaya Dub and was able to shower her with affection from embraces, dances and serenades; especially his wonderful rendition of the song God gave me you. The concert was held on 24th October and was the cause of the Twitter world breaking record with 39.5 Million tweets written about it in 24 hours with the hashtag #AlDubEBTamangPanahon, and overall 41 million! The numbers broke social media records, even surpassing those about the world cup game between Germany and Brazil! Giving a tweak to these facts, if we take into consideration our entire population of 45 million, it is like having almost everyone is Kenya talking about one thing!

This show has thus spelled the world wide sensation of Alden
Richards and Maine Mendoza and we wish them well in this whirlwind of success
even though we might not get to watch them here in Kenya. If you are curious
enough though, you can watch some of the clips on You Tube but don’t
forget to look for ones with subtitles. You can contact me on Twitter @Kenyan_pinoy and i can share with you some of the links or on my Facebook page.
