Villain Appreciation!

As the year comes to an end, I saw it fit to celebrate some of the amazing characters we have had on our screens this year. Being a huge fan, I cannot fail to notice that it is not always the protagonists who make a show great, but without the presence of the antagonists, we would not have those irritable people that create conflicts and make a show worth watching. I therefore want to recognize and acknowledge some of the incredible actors who played antagonistic and villainous characters that we have watched this year!

1. Jake Cuenca and Christopher De Leon as Franco.

Franco Hidalgo was the most cunning and ruthless characters from Ikaw Lamang and I think both actors did a splendid job playing him! Jake Cuenca had the recklessness of youth and wreaked havoc all around Salvacion and we could not help but hate him. When Christopher De Leon took over the character in Book two, I was blown away by how well he carried on the character while keeping up the same intrigues that plagued his younger version, save for a maturity shown by age which was necessary due to the twenty year time jump! Both of them really gave justice to Franco’s character.

2. KC Concepcion and Janna Cassandra as Natalia.

The two played Natalia Hidalgo in Ikaw Lamang with Janna playing young Natalia. Though they were not full blown antagonists, they provided such obstacles that we went mad with rage. The young Natalia especially was such a pain due to her love of snitching and played that role with brilliance. KC also had her snitching moments which eventually died down as she smartened up but her most annoying times were when she came between Gabriel and Jacq.

3. Maricar Reyes-Poon as Sasha.

Maricar played Mrs. Salvador, Sasha in Tomorrow Belongs To me and she was indeed something! She started out trying to humiliate Rose, her step sister by paying Patrick to seduce her, which unfortunately did not go her way as she was in love with Patrick. After Rose was conveniently removed from the picture, she got to marry Patrick and was a hysterical, jealous wreck all through the show during her loveless marriage.

4. Maja Salvador as Nicole.

Maja Salvador played Adrian’s mistress Nicole in The Legal Wife which concluded during the start of this Year. Though Adrian played his part in the affair, Nicole did her best to pursue him to no end while simultaneously playing the victim after destroying her best friend’s marriage! Monica did give her some much deserved slaps and we cheered on for it was only fair after her bad behavior.

5. Roi Vinzon as Fernando

Roi Vinzon plays the ever lusting Mayor Fernando in Carmela. He has been the cause of mayhem and tragedy that have followed Amanda and her daughter Carmela who choose to blame the two marks on their shoulders as the cause of their misfortunes. We will soon witness his fate as Carmela finally ends and only hope that it will be a painful one due to all the harm he has caused!

There we are, villain appreciation for you. Overall, i feel like Ikaw Lamang had the best villains including Maximo played by Ronaldo Valdez and Gonzalo played by John Estrada. Please tell me some of the other antagonists you have loved to hate this year, however minor they were.
